Kayakers

Oil on Canvas 24"x48"
Every once in a while I like to try my hand at depicting water. As well, while I draw the human form a lot, I don't paint people very often. I tried to create the feeling of a bit of mist by lightening the tone of the paddles. As well, I indicated the horizen line softly, adding to the feeling of mist and atmosphere.

I think it's perfect. Even though we know the kayakers are moving there is an quiet stillness to it that is very calming. Lovely work!

You caught exactly the feel of sun burning through the mist. Realist depictions of water are challenging. Photo reference often "freezes" the reflections in a way that doesn't really depict the perpetual movement we see and feel. You found a balance there and handled it beautifully.
